Warning, extremely old Photoshop tutorials ahead!
These Photoshop tutorials are extremely old, we're talking around 1999 here, so we can't even remember what version of Photoshop that was. So rather than get rid of them we thought we'd help out the people that still find them useful and celebrate our web design heritage by keeping them here.

For the keen eyed among you, you can even spot the extremely old HTML from back in the day when web design was a little bit simpler (Mmmm, font tags). No responsive web design here!

Open up the metal texture image that was created in an earlier tutorial (metal texture).
Click on the channels pallet and using the text tool and one of the symbol fonts (I used monotype sorts) type a symbol for your stamp.
Click back to your layers pallet and choose Filter > Render > Lighting Effect

The settings I used were:
  • Intensity - 35
  • Focus - 69
  • Gloss - 0
  • Material - 69
  • Exposure - 0
  • Ambience - 8
  • Texture Channel - Alpha 1 (#1)
  • White is high - Unchecked
  • Height - 28

Click OK
That's it... Try changing the brightness and contrast to get different effects
